There are
four principal aims (Purusharthas) in Vedic philosophy: Dharma (righteousness),
Artha (wealth), Kama (desires), and Moksha (liberation). Among these, Artha—the
pursuit of wealth—is essential for meeting basic human needs such as food,
clothing, and shelter. In modern life, employment or self-employment is the
most common means to acquire Artha. Work and income are therefore tightly
interwoven.
Within this framework, let us explore the astrological indicators for obtaining a job or starting a business.
A. House
and Planetary Significations
The 10th
house in a horoscope represents profession or career. The 2nd and 6th
houses, which are in trine to the 10th, also play important roles—the 2nd
for income, and the 6th for service. The 11th house denotes gains and
fulfillment of desires. These houses work in tandem.
A planet
becomes a significator (Karak) of a house when:
1.
It
is placed in that house in the Rasi chart (preferably Sripati Chalit).
2.
It
is placed in that house in the Navamsa (D-9) chart.
3.
It
is the lord of that house.
4.
It
is in the nakshatra of the house lord or of a planet occupying that
house.
5.
Its
Navamsa sign falls in the concerned house in the Rasi chart.
6.
It
is associated with, exchanging signs with, or aspected by
the house lord in either Rasi or Navamsa.
B. Role
of Dasamsa (D-10)
The D-10
chart is essential for career analysis. A planet placed well in D-10 and
having supportive connections in Rasi and Navamsa ensures an uninterrupted
professional life. The lord of the D-10 Ascendant must be strong and
auspiciously placed.
Rule: At
least two out of the three—Mahadasa, Antardasa, and Pratyantardasa lords—should
support career-related houses (2nd, 6th, 10th, or 11th).
C.
Transit Clues for Job Timing
C1.
Ascendant Lord Transit
- The Ascendant lord often transits
the Navamsa sign of the 10th lord or its trines or 7th
sign at the time of securing a job.
C2.
Saturn's Role
1.
Saturn
transits the Navamsa sign of the 10th house, its trines, or its 3rd
house from there.
2.
Count
10 houses from the Dwadasamsa (D-12) sign of the Moon; Saturn’s transit
over or in trine to this sign also supports job gain.
C3.
Jupiter’s Role
1.
Jupiter
supports when transiting houses other than 4th, 8th, or 12th from the Navamsa
Ascendant.
2.
Jupiter
favors the trine signs of the 10th house in Rasi.
3.
Count
the 10th house from the D-10 and D-6 Moon sign; Jupiter often aspects or
transits trines from this sign.
4.
Add
the longitude of the Moon's dispositor to the 10th lord from Moon
and find the Navamsa sign of the result. Jupiter’s transit in signs of the same
parity (odd/even) often proves favorable.
C4. Mars’
Role
- From the Moon in D-10,
the 10th house should be identified. Mars should transit or aspect its
trines.
C5.
Rahu’s Role
1.
Take
the D-12 sign of the 10th lord (counted from Aries or from the sign it
occupies). Rahu’s transit in all odd houses (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th,
11th) supports job opportunities.
2.
Subtract
Mercury's longitude from the Ascendant, and find the resulting Navamsa
sign. Rahu’s odd-house transits from this sign can be helpful.
C6.
Mercury as Natural Karaka
- Mercury is a consistent Karak
for the 10th house.
1.
Mercury
transiting the trines or 7th from the Navamsa sign of the 10th house
is helpful.
2.
Favorable
effects also occur when the 10th lord transits Mercury's sign, trines
from it, or aspects Mercury.
G.
Combined Effect of Dasa and Transit
While
planetary periods (Vimsottari Dasa) indicate the timing potential, transit
confirms the exact delivery. A favorable Dasa alone is not enough unless
supported by planetary movement at the time. The synergy between both must be
examined carefully.
Practical
Rule:
- Take the Mahadasa, Antardasa,
and Pratyantardasa lords.
- Pay particular attention to the Antardasa
lord, as it often plays a decisive role in the timing of
job-related events.
If these
period lords are transiting the 1st, 5th, 9th, 7th, or 10th signs
from the Navamsa sign of the 10th house, the probability of getting a
job is significantly enhanced.
This
technique is very reliable for timing job appointments, promotions,
or entry into desired employment, especially in stable sectors.
3. Bad
Periods
Just as
astrology helps pinpoint favorable periods for professional success, it also
indicates challenging phases where career disruptions, setbacks, or loss
of job may occur. These periods should be interpreted with caution.
A. Dasa
(Planetary Periods)
The periods
of planets signifying the 8th or 12th houses from the:
- Ascendant (Rasi)
- Navamsa Ascendant (D-9)
- Dasamsa Ascendant (D-10)
are
generally inauspicious for career matters.
Note: Do not consider planetary lordship
in divisional charts (except for the Ascendant). Instead, consider the actual
position of planets within these charts.
Such
planetary periods often bring loss, instability, hidden obstacles, or
detachment from job responsibilities.
B.
Transit
Transits may
trigger problems even during a relatively neutral Dasa. Watch out for the
following:
1.
Saturn's Transit:
- Determine the Navamsa sign
of the 10th house (based on the Sripati house system).
- When Saturn transits the 1st,
5th, 9th, 2nd, 8th, or 12th signs from this Navamsa sign, it
can indicate career strain, delays, transfers, or job loss.
Note: While
Saturn’s trine transit may help in securing a job, once the job is
obtained, the same transit may also bring workplace stress or instability.
2. Moon
in D-10:
- Note the Dasamsa (D-10) sign
of the Moon.
- Malefic planets (especially Saturn)
transiting the 1st, 5th, 9th, 2nd, 8th, or 12th signs from this
position can signal problems at work, mood instability, or
declining job satisfaction.
3.
Ill-transit of Dasa Lords:
- Even if the Dasa lords are
promising by placement, if their transit is adverse (e.g., falling
in bad houses from key points like the 10th Navamsa sign or the
Ascendant), they may fail to deliver positive results.
Technical
Note:
To calculate
D-10 (Dasamsa) and D-6 (Shashtamsa) charts:
- Multiply the planetary longitude
(in signs) from the Rasi chart by 10 or 6, respectively.
- Reduce the result within 360° to
stay within the zodiac.
- Identify the resulting sign to
assign divisional chart positions.
Planets at
extreme junctions (e.g., 0°00′ or 29°59′) should be treated with caution
or temporarily excluded from evaluation to avoid ambiguity.
Final Tip
The transit
rules listed above are most applicable to stable, secure jobs. In
the case of short-term contracts or unstable private-sector roles, a few
of these criteria may be relaxed.
Astrological timing is most fruitful when synthesizing house significations, planetary periods, and key transits. By following the principles outlined above, one can make precise predictions regarding job acquisition and professional development.
Now, let us
examine a chart with Lahiri Ayanamsa.
1- Born on: July 22, 1975 at 9h 45m at
Bhopal (77e24, 23n16)
He joined a job in the Indian Railway
on March 12, 2005, when he was enjoying the period of Rahu_Rahu_Mercury. We
will also see the transit position of planets, but let us observe their natal
horoscope first.
In the Dasa
analysis, Rahu moved to the 3rd house in the Sripati Chalit chart, positioned
in Scorpio. In the Navamsa chart, it sits in the 9th house with the ascendant
lord, the Sun. Initially, this placement alone didn't grant Rahu significant
influence over job prospects. However, Rahu's conjunction with Venus, the Rasi
10th lord in Navamsa, fulfills the first stage of its qualification for job
provision.
Furthermore,
Rahu is posited in Saturn's star in the Rasi chart. Saturn is a strong job
significator, being the lord of the 6th house and positioned in the 11th house
with Mercury (the 2nd and 11th lord). This signifies Rahu's qualification for
the second stage in providing a job. Finally, Rahu's placement in the 11th
house of the Dasamsa chart marks its qualification for the third stage.
Therefore, Rahu is a supportive planet for the native's job acquisition.
The
sub-sub-period lord, Mercury, requires little further interpretation. As the
11th lord, it's strongly placed in the 11th house with the 6th lord, Saturn. In
the Navamsa chart, Mercury is in the 6th house, and its Navamsa sign
corresponds to the natal 10th house. Additionally, its position in the 3rd
house of the Dasamsa chart with its depositor, the Moon, is satisfactory.
Consequently, Mercury is a strong significator for a good and stable job.
Transit
Analysis
Let's
examine the transit positions of the planets at the time of job acquisition:
Transit-
- A. Sun's Transit: The Navamsa
sign of the natal 10th lord is Leo. At the time of the job, the native's
ascendant lord, the Sun, was transiting in Aquarius, which is the 7th sign
from Leo.
- B. Saturn's Transit:
1.
The
Navamsa sign of the natal 10th house is Virgo, while the Navamsa sign of the
10th lord is Leo. Saturn was aspecting Leo from its transit position in Gemini.
2.
The
D-12 sign of the natal Moon is Virgo, and the 10th sign from it is Gemini.
Saturn was transiting in Gemini.
- C. Jupiter's Transit:
1.
Jupiter
was in Virgo, which is a trine placement from Sagittarius, the 10th sign from
the natal Navamsa ascendant.
2.
The
D-6 sign of the Moon is Leo, and the 10th sign from it is Taurus. Jupiter was
in a trine aspect to Taurus at the time of joining.
3.
The
combined numerical value for Jupiter (Moon's sign depositor) and Mercury (the
10th lord from the Moon) is 2-23/58. Its Navamsa sign is Taurus, an even sign.
The transiting Jupiter was also in an even sign.
- D. Mars' Transit: The D-10 Moon
is in Cancer, and the 10th sign from it is Aries. Mars was in a trine
aspect to Aries from its transit position in Sagittarius.
- E. Rahu's Transit:
1.
The
D-12 sign of the natal 10th lord is Virgo (counted from Aries). Rahu was
transiting in Pisces, which is the 7th sign from Virgo.
2.
Considering
the Ascendant-Mercury combination (2-3/59), its Navamsa is Scorpio. Rahu was in
a trine aspect to Scorpio from its transit position in Pisces.
- F. Mercury & Venus Transits:
1.
Mercury
was transiting in Pisces, which is the 7th sign from the natal Navamsa sign of
the natal 10th house.
2.
The
natal 10th lord, Venus, was transiting in Aquarius, which is a trine position
from Mercury's natal placement.
- G. Dasa Period Transit: The Dasa
period was Rahu-Rahu-Mercury. Both Rahu and Mercury were transiting in Pisces,
which is the 7th sign from the Navamsa sign of the natal 10th house.
