Bhava Dasa

                                    Bhava Dasa

Bhava Dasa: A Method for Time-Based Predictions

Bhava Dasa is a systematic method for the approximate yet insightful timing of events in astrology. The following is a concise explanation of its calculation and predictive application.

Calculation method:-

Calculation Method:

1.    Total Duration:

o   The total span of the Bhava Dasa is 108 years.

o   It is divided into three cycles, each lasting 36 years.

2.    Cycle Distribution:

o   The first cycle corresponds to the Kendra Bhavas (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th houses).

o   The second cycle corresponds to the Panaphara Bhavas (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th houses).

o   The third cycle relates to the Apoklima Bhavas (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th houses).

3.    Starting Points of Each Cycle:

o   The first cycle starts from the 1st house.

o   The second cycle starts from the 2nd house.

o   The third cycle starts from the 3rd house.

4.    Division of Each Cycle:

o   Each cycle is divided into four Maha Dasas (major periods) of nine years each, distributed across the four houses relevant to that cycle.

§  First cycle: 1st → 4th → 7th → 10th houses

§  Second cycle: 2nd → 5th → 8th → 11th houses

§  Third cycle: 3rd → 6th → 9th → 12th houses

5.    Subdivision of Maha Dasa:

o   Each 9-year Maha Dasa is further subdivided into nine 1-year sub-periods.

o   The sequence of sub-periods follows a pattern:

§  The first year belongs to the same house as the Maha Dasa.

§  The next three years go to every 4th house forward from the previous (e.g., 4th, 7th, 10th).

§  The fifth year again returns to the house of the Maha Dasa.

§  This cycle repeats such that the main house appears three times, and the remaining square (Kendra) houses appear twice each.

6.    Usage of Charts:

o   Use the Chalit chart according to Shripati’s method.

o   For age-wise predictions, equate 1 year = 1 solar return.

Illustrative Example of Age-wise Prediction:

If the native is currently 25 years old, they fall into:

  • The first cycle (1–36 years), i.e., Kendra Bhava Dasa.
  • The third Maha Dasa (19–27 years), which belongs to the 7th house.
  • Within this, the 25th year falls into the sub-period of the 1st house.
    • This is because the 1st house appears in the 1st, 5th, and 9th sub-periods of any 9-year Maha Dasa.
    • So, the 21st and 25th years both fall under the sub-period of the 1st house within the major period of the 7th house.

Prediction Guidelines:

1.    General Effects:

o   The Maha Dasa (major period) gives results primarily of the house it represents.

o   It also activates the houses in trine (1st, 5th, 9th) and the 7th house from it.

o   The same principle applies to sub-periods.

2.    House Lords and Karakas:

o   The Dasa of a house where the lord of a significant house or its karaka (significator) is placed can trigger results of that significant house.

o   Example:

§  If the 7th lord and Venus are in the 10th house, then:

§  Marriage is likely between ages 27–36 (10th house Dasa), depending on their strength and afflictions.

§  If strong and unafflicted, marriage can also occur in the 4th or 10th sub-periods during the 7th house Maha Dasa.

§  In the 10th house Maha Dasa, the 10th, 4th, and 7th sub-periods are also favorable.

§  Periods of the 2nd and 6th houses may also be helpful, even if Venus and the 7th lord are weak.

3.    Timing by Karaka Placement:

o   If a karaka planet is in the first half of any house, the results may manifest in:

§  The first half of the house's Maha Dasa

§  Or the sub-period of that house

4.    Malefic Periods and Harmful Results:

o   Negative outcomes may occur when:

§  Malefics occupy trinal or Kendra positions from the Dasa house

§  The house is under Papkartari Yoga (hemmed between malefics)

§  The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses from the Dasa house are occupied by malefics

§  Both 3rd and 8th houses are afflicted (a Maraka yoga)

§  The Dasa house is aspected by malefics, and its lord is weak or afflicted

The house itself is weak or afflicted

Example: - Observe some examples. The casting of the horoscope is according to Lahiri Ayanamsa and Chalit chart according to Shripati`s method.

Example 1: Late Marriage

  • Date of Birth: January 10, 1966, 13:00 hrs
  • Place: Bareli, Madhya Pradesh (23N00, 78E18)
  • Event: Marriage at age 36

                                  Asc=0-15/33 and ! Chalit Chart!

Venus, the 7th lord and natural karaka for marriage, is afflicted: hemmed between malefics, aspected by Rahu, and likely in planetary war.

At age 36, the last part of the Kendra Dasa (10th house) was active (28–36 years).
Sub-period also fell in the 10th house, which hosts Venus.
Despite affliction, the placement in the Dasa house made marriage possible during this period.

Example 2: Early Demise

  • Date of Birth: February 2, 1975, 20:10 hrs
  • Place: Gwalior (26N12, 78E12)
Event: Death at age 21 due to heart failure

                                   Asc=4-18/54

The native was running the sub-period of the 1st house in the Maha Dasa of the 7th house.
The 7th house was occupied by 8th lord Jupiter, a classic Maraka placement.
The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses from the 7th were all occupied by malefics.
Saturn, karaka for longevity, was in the 11th (trine to 7th), under malefic aspect, and aligned with the 8th in Navamsa.
The 1st house, under sub-period, was aspected by afflicted Saturn, and its lord (Sun) was weak in the 6th, an enemy sign, and aspected by Ketu.
Both the 7th and 1st house periods were therefore death-inflicting.
