!Navamsa- Some aspect!

!!Shree!!
!Navamsa- Some aspect!

There are 16 Vargas (subdivisions) of ascendants and planets in Vedic astrology, to pinpoint any prediction and make a difference between nativities. Planets stay at a sign for a long time, and even ascendant rises for about two hours. Several births took place during this duration. We can differentiate every birth by using the Varga chart. The Navamsa is their most important sub-division. Some astrologers emphasize that ‘Navamsa’ is more valuable than Rasi itself. I also agree with their view. It had been my greatest problem for a long time: how to use it! How do you use it with the Rasi chart? Various classical texts of astrology have several hints about its uses.

We should study the Rasi chart to get primary indications of any event, and it must be confirmed from Navamsa and other related Varga charts.

Some astrologers suggest simply reading the Varga chart just like the Rasi chart. It may be useful in the general sense, but old authorities of astrology are not in favor of this view. I am also against them.

Our tradition of great seers gives the suggestion of taking the 64th Navamsa (Khar Navamsa) or 22nd Drekkana sign instead of the sign of the 8th house in the Navamsa or Drekkana chart. The 64th Navamsa generally falls in the 4th house of the Navamsa chart when the 10th house falls about 270 degrees away from the ascendant! The 64th and 22nd Drekkana are only general terms, as earlier, all the shoes of leather made by any company were known as ‘BATA’ shoes. So, lordship of other houses except the ascendant is not recommended in the Varga charts. Though house consideration suggested just like Rasi chart, as an ascendant lord is not desirable in evil houses, even in the Navamsa chart.

What is the use of calculating houses? Is it only to draw the Chalit chart?  It is used to determine lordship of houses and not only lordship but to know Vargas falling in the particular house, like divisional ascendants as Khar (64th) Navamsa or Khar (22nd) Drekkana. So, the Vargas falling into the particular house has much importance.

‘Saravali’ suggested the same method in chapter 34 in the Sutras 30 and 31.

“ Saptamsa of the 5th house belongs to Mars and the 5th house posited by Saturn, not within the aspect of any planet, provides ‘Kritim’ son.”

“ Vargas falling in the 5th house belongs to Saturn or the 5th house posited by Sun, within the aspect of Mars produced only a mean son.”

‘Jataka Tatwam’ also suggested the same method of pondering upon the matter of the 5th house in Sloka 208.

“The Vargas falling in the 5th house belongs to Jupiter or a benefic sign produced his son.”

Observe another sloka 12 of Jatakabhrnam, under the context of the 5th house.

“The Vargas falling in the 5th house belongs to Venus or Moon and aspected by either of them produced many issues.”

We must read the nature of that sign and the influence of planets on it in that particular Varga. It is advisable to take the Varga of any house equivalent to that Varga. As we are reading the Drekkana chart, we should take the Drekkana of our desired house. This works on practical grounds.  Khar (64th) Navamsa sign from the ascendant is only effective when we get after taking Navamsa of the 8th house, generally, it falls in the 4th house from the Navamsa ascendant, but not necessarily.

The lordship of houses from the Rasi chart is a unique and incomparable figure to read the house`s result. Even in the system of KP, they read planets in the star of the house lord and not in the star of the lord of that house. I prefer the method of Sripati to calculate the longitude of houses.

Let us see some clues using the above method.

a-    Take the Vargas (Navamsa, Drekkana) falling in the 3rd house. Observe the sign to determine whether male or female. The sex of the next younger sibling depends upon this. The square position and aspect of the male or female planet over this can decide the gender of the next birth. The impact of planets (male or female) over the Navamsa sign lord (Navamsa falling in the 3rd house) in both Vargas also helps much in this regard. We can also take into account the sign (male or female) occupied by this sign lord in both Vargas.

b-    The Moon sign of relation is generally one of avoiding the 2-12th and 6-8th positions from the Navamsa sign falling in a certain house. They (2-12, 6-8) may come into the role only at the extreme junction of signs; otherwise, a fruitless or sad relationship is indicated. The Moon star of relation falls in the benefic group of Taras from the star rising in the Navamsa of the particular house. But in marriage-related matters, the star of the 7th Tara is also acceptable.

c-     The star rising in the Khar Navamsa sign is harmful to natives' health-related matters. Also, consider the trine and the star falling in the 7th house from the Khar Navamsa sign. The ascendant, ascendant lord in this area bestows only a weak constitution of the body. The transit of planets over such stars can cause ill health.

Generally, astrologers rarely use the Navamsa chart in interpreting a horoscope. They consider it only to observe the strength of planets, while the planets' position at the Navamsa sign is more important than the Rasi chart.

Jeeva Sharma* considered the Navamsa sign of the Moon to read Sunpha-Anphadi Yoga.

Deva Keralam suggests the Navamsa sign of the Moon to consider the transit of planets, while astrologers rarely use it in their interpretation. Observe some slokas.

-               - Saturn`s transition through the Navamsa sign occupied by the Moon causes fear of enemies, etc.

-     -When Saturn transits the 7th sign from the Moon`s Navamsa sign- - -.

-       -        - During Rahu Dasa, when Saturn transits the 8th sign counted from the Moon`s Navamsa sign- - -.

It works on practical grounds. We should consider the Navamsa sign of the Moon for transiting purposes. It gives better results than Rasi Moon.

Like the Navamsa sign of the Moon, the Navamsa star of the Moon is also a very important factor. The result of Tara is more reliable and well on the practical ground, which is counted from the star of the Navamsa Moon. We can get the Navamsa star of the Moon by simply multiplying the Rasi Moon by nine and making the figure within the range of the zodiac.

Great seers of astrology have not revealed each possible aspect of astrology, sometimes they provide only hints to work further for true and honest aspirants.

The hint is clear in ‘Deva Keralam’ with the example of the Moon to work further on various other points.

So, we can also determine the Navamsa position of Tithi and Yoga. These factors seldom come into use in predictive astrology but are only confined to the calculation of Muhurta. The Navamsa Tithi and Yoga have a great impact on nativity. The Tithes of Yuva and Briddha Varga from Navamsa Tithi and Yoga falling in a benefic Tara from Navamsa Yoga are always auspicious and provide better results in the daily life of the native. We can select the best of them by comparing them with Rasi's position of these figures.

How to read it with a Rasi chart is also a perplexing question. We can move in the following manner.

a-    The result of the planets' position in certain houses for the Rasi chart is also applicable to the Navamsa chart. In the same way, the result of the conjunction of planets also works in the Navamsa chart.

b-    The conjunction of certain house lords of the Rasi chart works effectively in the Navamsa chart. A union of the 5th and 7th lord from the Rasi chart, in the Navamsa chart, creates the possibility of a love marriage. The house-wise position of certain house lords of the Rasi chart works effectively in the Navamsa chart. As position of the 5th or 7th lord of the Rasi chart in the 7th or 5th house, respectively, in the Navamsa chart, is a strong indication of a love marriage.

c-     The quality and intensity of mutually good related planets from the Rasi chart get reduced much if they are in ill relation (2-12th or 6-8th) in the Navamsa chart. This technique was widely used by Dr. B.V. Raman in his book ‘How to Judge a Horoscope’.

d-    The Varga or division lord is not good in the evil houses in the same divisional charts.

e-    The planets posited in the 6-8-12th houses or afflicted by other means are unsupportive to the significance ruled by them for said division matters.

f-       Such planets are unsupportive of the significance of the matter related to divisional charts in which they are situated over the zodiac signs belonging to the 3-8-12th houses from the Rasi chart.

Learned readers are familiar with the influence of eunuch planets (Saturn, Mercury, Gulika) in the formation of adoption combinations. As-

Saravali, chapter 34, verse 29

Should the 5th house be occupied by the sign of Saturn or Mercury posited by Moon, and within the aspect of the 5th lord (Saturn or Mercury), produce only an adopted or purchased son.
